Supporting Students Who Are Falling Behind
Facilitated by Emilie Newsham Novak
January 24, 2024 | 4:30-6:00 pm | Herring 129

There are numerous reasons why students may be falling behind and a variety of resources on and off campus available to help them. In this workshop, participants will learn what they can do as instructors to support struggling students while maintaining course rigor and staying on schedule. Participants will practice interventional conversations with students and discuss methods for getting students caught up. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a better understanding of how pedagogy surrounding student motivation, teacher-student rapport, and content scaffolding can help them devise strategies to improve and maintain student performance mid-semester.

Facilitated by Daniela del RĂo
Wednesday, November 1 | 4:30-6:00 | Herring 129

This workshop is designed to generate a mindset change about the abilities and capacities of the participants. Through specific case studies, participants will create a set of growth mindset suggestions to instructors, which will be further expanded upon with the recommendations of experts. Participants will be provided tools for teaching a class through the perspective of a growth mindset as well as to perceive their own education through this lens.

The CTE is hosting a social gathering at Valhalla immediately following the workshop, from 6-8pm.
