The CTE offers a wide range of workshops each semester. Graduate students can attend individual workshops according to their needs and interests and/or pursue the Microcredential in Evidence-based Pedagogy. Workshops are designed to be hands-on and include lunch. RSVP to secure your spot!
Microcredential in Evidence-based Pedagogy
The microcredential program offers a series of curated workshops on evidence-based pedagogy to provide just-in-time preparation for key tasks associated with roles such as teaching assistant and graduate instructor of record. The program is designed to complement the Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning and to offer accelerated pedagogical development for graduate students and postdocs when other commitments preclude them from pursuing Certificate courses.
Each semester, the CTE offers multiple student-focused workshops on topics such as reflective practice, the course design process, evidence-based instruction and assessment practices, and navigating challenges in the classroom. Workshops are identified as foundational, intermediate, and advanced, and the CTE provides guidance on paths for various roles (e.g., teaching assistant, future instructor of record). Participants also have access to individual consultations and open office hours with CTE faculty to further develop pedagogical materials.
The program’s pace is designed for participation across two or more semesters, but it can be completed in a single semester if students are preparing to teach the following semester. Participants can register for as many workshops as they would like; however, to satisfy the microcredential requirements, participants must attend at least 5 workshops (covering 6 learning outcomes), complete a post-workshop survey for each workshop, submit a reflection and evaluation form after completing 5 workshops, and participate in a post-program interview with a CTE faculty member. To register for the microcredential, RSVP for the workshop(s) of your choice; workshop facilitators will provide more information about the microcredential at each workshop.
