Pedagogical Sciences in Practice

Pedagogical Sciences in Practice is an expanded version of our legacy program What's New in Research on Teaching and Learning.

If you are interested in sharing your own pedagogical research with the Rice community, please let us know and a CTE faculty member will reach out to schedule your presentation.

    • We will also unveil our Rice pedagogical research collection and provide guidance on how to share your pedagogical research with the Rice teaching community.
    • Presented by Lucy Hu, Data Science graduate student and Fondren Fellow.
    • Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP here: https://bit.ly/cte_RSVP

Fall 2024

  • September 5: Intro to IRB
  • September 24: Pedagogical Science and Open Scholarship Brown Bag workshop
  • October 30: PSP Showcase
    • Sandy Parsons, Psychological Sciences
    • Rodrigo Ferreira, Computer Science
    • Beth Beason-Abmayr, BioSciences
  • November 22: Peer Evaluation of Teaching Tool (PETT) workshop
    • Although widely used, student evaluations of teaching have known biases and limited use as true reflections of quality instruction. Therefore, the University Committee on Teaching recommends peer evaluations of teaching as a means of presenting supplemental views of teaching effectiveness at Rice.
    • In this workshop, we will present an online, evidence-based tool for generating customizable peer evaluation forms. Also useful in assessing faculty candidates and mentoring junior faculty, come see and experience the launch of this user-friendly course and curriculum assessment tool. Bring your laptop or tablet!
    • Presented by Laura Kabiri, Praise Mayor, Elizabeth McGuffey, and Rebecca Schreib.

All PSP events take place at 12:00-1:00 in 129 Herring. Lunch will be provided; RSVP here!
