Oral Assessments Workshop: September 8 & 9, 2026 | Callan Monette
This workshop will explore methods of oral assessment and provide information on best practices in this domain. Participants will be able to:
- Describe the evidence-based strengths and limitations of oral assessments
- Construct an implementation plan for integrating scalable oral assessments into a course, including scaffolded opportunities for student practice
- Design rubrics for equity-driven evaluation of oral assessments
Note: The same workshop will be repeated on both dates to maximize participant availability and attendance.
Assessment Redesign Work Session: October 19 & 20, 2026, 11am-2pm
These open-ended work sessions offer faculty or graduate instructors the opportunity to dedicate time to assessment re-design, with support and consultation available from CTE faculty members.
Oral Assessments Showcase: November 6, 2026 | Callan Monette
This showcase will highlight Rice faculty members who have implemented oral assessments in their own courses. They will share their experiences, tips, and best practices for oral assessment implementation in a variety of classroom structures.
